"Adrift" The lost thylacine
Not Physically lost, lost in it's environment.... everything has changed and the thylacine drifts off back into Mother Earth.

Story:

Where have all the thylacine gone?
In the quiet of the button grass, where once I used to roam,
the shadows stretch across a land I no longer call my home.

I’m hunted for the stripes I wear, for the wildness in my breath,
by those who fear the ancient ways and offer only death.

 
The forest floor is severed now by veins of thick black dirt,
where iron beasts with eyes so bright bring sudden, metal hurt.
They scream across the silence, leaving nothing but the echoes of a place where I once could hide.

I’ve watched again and again the humans dump bizarre objects that turn my home from green to black and fuel the big hot red. Leaving behind an emptiness that cannot be fed.

The rivers, once like liquid glass, flow with a heavy murky green,
I’m a ghost within the wreckage of a world that once was pristine.

So I drift away like the morning mist, a sigh upon the gale,
I fade back into the mountain's heart, the water, and the clay,
to be the earth I once belonged to, before I slipped away.
